How to Send an SMS Message to Cingular Phones
If you are sitting at your computer and you want to send an SMS/text message to a Cingular or AT&T Wireless customer, you can visit this Cingular SMS Message page to send one out for free. Of course, the recipient may have to pay to receive the message, but you don’t have to pay to send it.
UPDATE: Looks like the new Cingular AT&T merger has put that page into orbit, for now you can get 12 bonus ringtones and a bunch of other cool stuff for your Cingular or AT&T mobile phone.

i think the question is an SMS vs an email message. Is there a way to do this with a paging program for example PAGENET having it to send to arch wireless pagers (now called usa mobility) and also have it send an SMS text message to the phone. I know nextel has this capability. The system dials a 1800 number and gives a pin# (the pager number) then the message is inputted. All done without internet access, just access to a paging program and a modem+phoneline.

AT&T is doing away with anything Cingular. You can send a text message to a fellow AT&T / Cingular person if you have an account - log in and you will find a text message area. If not, you can email it! See below info:
QUESTION:
How do I e-mail a text message to an AT&T wireless phone?
ANSWER:
To e-mail a text message to an AT&T wireless phone:
Type the text message as an e-mail through your e-mail account.
Send the e-mail to the AT&T wireless phone using the following address format for the AT&T wireless phone number:
10-digit wireless phone number@txt.att.net
Standard messaging rates apply for the recipient.

Professor J got it right, send text into YOURPHONENUMBER@txt.att.net
Works for both old Cingular and AT&T

Where not looking for feedback on how o create a account just to send a friend or family free sms message using cingulars or at&t site that provides that free service to send a person free sms without having a account. Where looking for sites that does not require us to sign up just so we can send free sms message to our group. I’m in La Paz Bolivia but was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts and I would like to find a website that provides free sms service for cingular or AT&T without sign ups or having a account there.

As others said, service unvailable! Go figure and I really need to send a text and don’t have my cell phone!!! What happened to being able to go onto the AT&T website and do it directly from there??? Poor customer service if you ask me!

I know this is old, but Windsor why don’t you just send an email to the phonenumber@txt.att.net?
You don’t have to sign up for anything and the user gets a text message, not an email. It works great, fast and much better than trying to get an email on a crappy cell phone. I use it all the time, and it is very reliable.
NOTE: The important part is the “txt.att.net” - this is a text message, if you use something like mms.mycingular.com it gets sent as an email, which totally blows.
