Another Reason Why I Love America
There are so many reasons why the United States is the greatest country to live in, but I just saw another one on my way back home this morning. 9am on Thursday means street cleaning on the south side of the street and I was parked there. So, at around 8:55 I set out to move my car, hit the post office and wash my car. It is a gorgeous day here in San Francisco and I was feeling good. I accomplished my tasks and found a parking spot right in front of 2945 on the street cleaning side. As I pulled up, I could see that the street cleaner had been there, signaling that it is ok to park there. There was a silver Ford Aerostar van, circa 1990, that had just pulled in to the spot in front of me before I parked. As I was gathering up some mail I looked out the windshield to see that a worker from the contstruction site across the street, was handed a plate of food. As I walked up behind them I overhead the worker asking, “how much are the Cokes?” I realized what was going on. Normally, there is a “sanctioned” “roach coach” that pulls up around 10am. This guy is undercutting the official guy. There was no grill inside the van, it was an ordinary Aerostar that picks up kids across the country every day. The guy just sold plates of whatever they made that morning and drinks for sale.
I am sure some people out there, probably not anyone I hang out with, are questioning the health risks of dining at such an establishment. I say good for that guy, he is hustling to make a buck and helping hungry people at the same time. Now, if I can just get him to fire up some cart dogs…
