Sprint PPC-6700 Smartphone Released

Sprint has released the first smartphone to use the latest version of Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system. The Sprint PPC-6700 is a compact handset built by UTStarcom who also makes a WiFi handset for people using Vonage and other VOIP services. This is the first device to use the latest verison, 5.0, of the cool Windows Mobile OS. 5.0 has a number of new features and tweaks, but the biggest improvements have focused on media sync’ing with Windows Media Player 10 and mobile devices like the PPC-6700. Probably the coolest feature is built in EV-DO support. EV-DO is the fastest wireless data technology in the US today and is available in most major cities and will be rolled out in almost 300 metropolitan areas by then end of 2006. Speeds of up to 4Mb/sec down can be achieved via EV-DO. If anyone from Sprint is listening, send me one of these things so I can test it out here in San Francisco.
