Performancing FireFox Blogging Extension

I guess I forgot to mention this last week…imagine that. The guys (are there any girls over there? I haven’t noticed any) over at Performancing have put out a pretty nice FireFox Blogging extension.  If you use or tried out Flock, it basically does what Flock should do.  The extension allows you to quickly and easily post to any of your blogs. Supporting every major blogging platform out there, including Wordpress.com blogs, the Performancing blogging extension saves those of us who post to multiple blogs on a daily basis a fair amount of time.

What I Like

What I like about the extension is that it works right out of the box.  I had it installed, checked all of the settings, and added a blog to post to in less than 5 minutes.  Once setup with a blog (easy to use wizard walks you through adding blogs), I was able to post a blog to golod.com, complete with Technorati tags and my categories checked.  The blogging extension grabs your blog categories and displayes them in the tabbed sidebar and allows you to insert Technorati tags to a post on any platform. Cool.

One of my biggest fears was that posting with this tool, was going to insert a bunch of crap, like Flock does, when posting to my blog.  Well, it posted fine.  The only issue I ran into was when I tried to hand code an anchor, but using the WYSIWYG editor link tool, made it work fine, so I will do it that way.

What I Don’t Like

Ok, what don’t I like about it? As I just mentioned, I was not able to add an anchor tag in-line while composing my post.  Not sure why that is, but it is easily remedied by using the link button after highlighting the text I want to make into an anchor (aka: link).  This is not even a minor issue to me, even though I like to be in full control.  NOTE: I just realized that my headings here are using

tags and when I hit the live preview button, they showed up as plain text. So, let me add the ability to bust out some html on the fly, to the list. I guess I can use the Source Editing mode to do this. I guess I am just spoiled because I can do this inside the WordPress text editor. The only think I really am wishing for, is the ability to enter trackback URLs, which right now, does not exist.  I know that they are aware that some people would like to see this in the next release.  And, if I can get some blog management, to help organize the blogs I have in my list, that would be real nizzle. That is not major, but they are not even alphabetized. So, the ability to clean up the list and maybe segment it with some lines or something would be nice.

Conclusion

Bottom line: This is a great extension. I put it up there with Sage in my book.  This is something that I use everyday already and I find it very useful. It saves me time already, has a very low learning curve and works.  What more can you ask for in a free tool?
