White Hat, Black Hat, How About Green Hat?

Ok, so what is the deal with the whole Black Hat / White Hat BS? I mean, let’s get serious. Is there anyone out there who has not broken the law somehow? Is that possible? I don’t think so. I see this whole silly debate over Black Hat SEO and White Hat SEO as complete nonsense. You know what? It is all about the Green Hat. After all, the reason 99.99% of people out there try to get top search results listings is because of the dolla bills, right? I think it is kind of funny that people want to blame some guy/girl somewhere that is outranking them for a specific term for hurting their business or some other junk. Hmm, so this guy/girl is smarter than you. Figured out a way to out rank your site for a particular term in a particular search engine….and it is that person’s “fault.” So funny. People, guess what? Search engines rank pages. If you have a problem with how they do it, take it up with them. Write it down, take a picture of it… Don’t complain and say your business is going to have to close its doors. It is a dog eat dog world out there and if you don’t want to compete, then stay home. I have been “competing” online since 1996 and I remember when on-page optimization was all their was…we just didn’t have a fancy name for it yet. You win some and you lose some. You take your licks and hopefully you give some back. We are all Green Hats when it comes down to it. Don’t tell me, or anyone else, you have never done anything that is “Black Hat SEO,” ’cause I ain’t buying it son.

Now, get back to work Green Hat.

Jason - You may have already seen it (are you competing in the V-E contest?), but you might get a chuckle out of the white, black (and green!) hats depicted on the page in my signature.
