Yahoo! Launches Yahoo! Answers

December 7th, 2005 - 3 Comments

Most of us have heard of Google Answers before. Google Answers has a group of 500 or so researchers who will answer your question for as little as $2.50. The idea is simple, pay someone else to find the answer to your question. It is like having your own research department or analyst on your staff. Well, maybe it is not like having an MBA around, but you get the picture.

Enter Yahoo! with their new Yahoo! Answers. Yahoo! has come at the whole “answers” thing in a different direction. Yahoo draws on the power of the Yahoo! community to help answer queries other users have. There is no money involved, it is totally free. You essentially sign-in using your Yahoo! ID and you can ask 10 or 11 questions a day. You categorize your questions and then post them to Yahoo! Answers. Then it is up to the people in the Yahoo! community can answer them. I just was in there and answered/gave advice on two questions. It seems like a very good system to be honest. If it catches on, which I suspect it will, it will be a great place to get people’s advice on everything from what kind of digital camera to buy to where you should say when in Belize.
