Google 728×90 Ad Layout

Tuesday, January 31st, 2006

Placing images over or to the sides of your Adsense ads is a great way to help CTR. Of course, you will have to mind the Adsense TOS, but I know that this is something Adsense account executives recommend (and even create) for their clients. So, here are the left boundary start points for a […]

Great Privacy Read

Tuesday, January 31st, 2006

I just came across a great primer on internet privacy as well as some other great articles at Adam Fields’ blog. If you are wondering what the big hubub about Google, Yahoo, and MSN Search being asked for their search logs was all about, give Adam’s blog a read. It is chock full […]

Google Moves into Pay Per View

Thursday, January 26th, 2006

Just read over at the Google blog that the Google Video team is making their move into Pay Per View video. You missed cry baby Kobe score 81 points the other night? No worries, you can watch the Lakers vs. Raptors game on demand…you just have to pony up $3.95. Who said content […]

Matt Cutts is Going on the “Radio”

Thursday, January 26th, 2006

Just read over at Greg Boser’s blog that Matt Cutts will be appearing on the internet radio show “SEO Rockstars” this coming Tuesday at 4pm. I have listened to the show a couple of times, but I will probably make a point to listen to this one. I believe they are available after-the-fact as […]

Carroll Shelby Says Pimp My Ride!

Wednesday, January 25th, 2006

Ok, if you know me, then you know that I like the cars. I just got an email from a friend of mine…actually, it was forwarded from his wife…but, that is a story for another day. If you like cars or even if you don’t, you need to check out what the West […]

Yahoo! Search Team Responds

Wednesday, January 25th, 2006

I have been losing respect for the reporter on the street more and more these days. I am not sure if it is me getting older and actually listening to the things that they say and the “facts” that they report, but I find that they mis-report (read: make stuff up) facts and news […]

Google is OK With *Some* Evil Now?

Friday, January 20th, 2006

I was just reading a post on “some other” blog and it prompted me to search the Google website for “no evil.” As far as I can remember, Google used to publish, on their website, that they would do no evil. Clearly that has changed, as I cannot find anyplace on www.google.com or investor.google.com […]

Feed Subscription Button Maker

Friday, January 20th, 2006

Just noticed a really cool feed subscription button maker that fellow DP’er TwisterMc has put together. If you can find a subscription that TwisterMc has not covered in this cool little tool, then you probably win some kind of prize. If you use Wordpress like most of us do over there, then you […]

Feds Seek Google Search Logs

Thursday, January 19th, 2006

“Interesting” news this morning from the Mercury News: Feds After Google Data. Apparently the Bush administration asked a Federal judge to order Google to hand over a broad range of material from their databases. The move is reported to be an attempt by the Bush administration to revive an internet child protection law […]

Amazon AWS is Down

Thursday, January 19th, 2006

Looks like Amazon is having a major AWS outtage this morning. I started to work on promoting a particular product this morning and all calls to Amazon’s AWS system returned no results due to an error message. Checking the AWS forums shows that I am not alone.

Shoemoney Seat Covers?

Wednesday, January 18th, 2006

Hrm. Looks like someone is making a funny about Shoemoney over at the ClickSentry Blog. Looks like they needed an XL rather than a large and now they are using it at a seat cover. But, you can’t fault someone for thinking you are smaller than you really are. But, with 44in pythons […]

Build Your Own Google

Wednesday, January 18th, 2006

One of the things I find really interesting is that Google has access to such an incredible amount of information. That is why their interest in purchasing miles and mile of dark fiber, putting a “free” wifi network in San Francisco and providing “free” encryption for wifi hotspot users have caught my attention. […]

The Party-Nator!

Friday, January 13th, 2006

I really don’t know what to say about this video, other than you have to check it out. A friend just emailed this video of Arnold Schwarzenegger “doing” Carnival in Rio. It is seriously hilarious. One of my favorite lines from the video, “Brasil is devoted to my favorite body part…the ass.” Go […]

Hello MSN, Calling MSN

Friday, January 13th, 2006

Seriously, I like the MSN Search team’s efforts in making a voracious crawler named MSNbot. But, here is the thing. When a page comes up 404, say for 30 days in a row…maybe it is time to stop asking for it? You see, there was a little “test” we may have been doing […]

Update on “Adsense Expanded Text Ads” on Rectangle Ads

Wednesday, January 11th, 2006

I am sure you have noticed that many times your rectangle Adsense ads are displaying two (you will probably see this on the left side of this site), rather than four, text ads these days. These are called Expanded Text Ads by the Adsense people and are apparently run on a per-page basis if […]

One More Reason to Dump Blogger

Wednesday, January 11th, 2006

Ok, so it is no secret that I am a big fan of Wordpress blogs. I started using Blogger.com blogs, but have since seen the light and moved many blogs over to WordPress or left them in the posting dust. I have converted a few over using the existing Blogger Import tools that […]

RSS Tool to Combine RSS Feeds

Tuesday, January 10th, 2006

If you are looking to combine RSS feeds into one feed, then all you need to do is peep rssmix.com.  I was looking to aggregate feeds from individual forums at DigitalPoint, eliminating the noisy ones and it took me all of about 2 […]

Forget What Your Mother Told You About Link Building

Tuesday, January 10th, 2006

If you are serious about rankings and you don’t like to waste your own time, then you are going to want to forget everything your mother told you about link building and read Stuntdubl’s link building “how-to” ASAP. It is not only a great lesson in link building, it is a great road map […]

High Signal Sandbox Discussion…for Once

Monday, January 9th, 2006

Noticed a calmer post at SEOMoz Blog this afternoon and an even better find was the high-signal Sandbox discussion going on at the new SEO Roundtable forums (are they new? I can’t remember).  I have not been visiting the forums as much these […]

Google Directory Gives No Results for Banned Sites

Monday, January 9th, 2006

Hmmm, just noticed something kinda interesting. I think this is a new development over at the Google Directory. I have a site that is in the ODP and the Google Directory that will not display if I type the domain name in as a search query. The other sites in the category all display […]
