Build Your Own Google
January 18th, 2006 - No Comments YetOne of the things I find really interesting is that Google has access to such an incredible amount of information. That is why their interest in purchasing miles and mile of dark fiber, putting a “free” wifi network in San Francisco and providing “free” encryption for wifi hotspot users have caught my attention. What would be the real benefit to Google in doing these things? More information for them…at least that is my take. One of the coolest things I have come across lately are ideas like Tag Cloud. Tag cloud takes any RSS feed(s) and makes it/them into a tag cloud based on the predominant terms found in the RSS feeds. What is so cool about that? Well, think about this. Let’s say you take the general Google News feed and were to create a Tag Cloud with it. You would be able to get an idea of what the terms that people would be most likely to search for on a particular day. Of course, this is probably one of Google’s best methods at defending against link manipulation and has roots in the “Google Sandbox” filter. Maybe the hat is black today.
