Google is OK With *Some* Evil Now?
I was just reading a post on “some other” blog and it prompted me to search the Google website for “no evil.” As far as I can remember, Google used to publish, on their website, that they would do no evil. Clearly that has changed, as I cannot find anyplace on www.google.com or investor.google.com that explicitly states they will not do evil. Instead, it appears that Google has adopted a new mantra, “don’t be evil.” Pretty much a joke if you ask me. Sounds like something a politician would do while nobody was looking. I think that they were on to something with their “do no evil” mantra and I think that a lot of people stood behind them because of that statement. It appears however that there has been a change in strategy at Googleplex.
Of course, I noticed this after Google stood up to the Feds this week when they asked a Federal court for permission to get access to some of Google’s private usage data. But, the discussions that have come from this make me wonder just what the mindset is over at Google these days. Clearly, the dollar bill is now an important factor in everything they do.
