Value of .EDU Links

June 21st, 2006 - 5 Comments

I am trying to figure out the value of .edu links. I have a domain/site up for sale on DP that has one PR5 .edu link pointing to it and currently the site (only one page) is showing a toolbar PR of 4. It gets cache updates every week or two and has some rotating news on it right now that updates daily. My question is, what is that site worth? Right now the bid is at $50 and I think that it is a fair price when you consider that the link has been there for a long time, it is on a page with around 20 outbound links and it is all good in G’s eyes.

I think the “value” is hard to say, but I know that on a site or two I have a PR that is hard for me to justify (by number of links). I assume it is because there are “reputable” links coming from .edu or .org sites.

    Hi,
I think more of a true value assessment might be how old the site is and how long the .edu and any other good, quality links have pointed to it. Now it seems to be all about older inbound links for Google ranking.

On a related note, I posted a “for sale” message for a domain I own which has 40 .edu links pointing to it, 4 or 5 .gov’s, and a host of other good quality links. No one responded to the thread – I was bummed :(

I have others which have 4 or 5 year old links from .edu’s and .gov’s. I need to find the time to monitize them better I feel rather than sell them – we’ll see.

  3. I have seen your DP post about .edu link, I think you can have a better selling point once you tell them that the price varies when the PR gets higher or lower as per Google’s update.
    :)

  4. One more thing, sell anything in DP with fairly good value for the DP peepz and they buy it in a snap.

I have read they help but not sure if they really have any serious weight to them. Some say yes and others say no. I’m sure it all depends on Google’s outlook on the site itself as I’m sure they have poorly managed sites as well.
