How About Google Maps Mobile for the Cingular 8125?
Hey Google. How about making the cool Google Maps for Mobile work with the super duper pimp Cingular 8125, running Windows Mobile 5.0. I tried to install the Java app, but it just locked up. Then I updated the 8125 to the new ROM and still no love. I am sure it will be a matter of time before Windows Mobile has GMM capability, but, I am very impatient.

Hi. I was able to install this on my Cingular 8125. Granted, the GMM applet does freeze frequently. But it sort of runs.
Hopefully they’ll spend more time focusing on mobile development.

I’m delighted to learn of a Cingular 8125 user who has succeeded in getting GMM to run (sort of) on this device. Can you describe exactly what you did to get it to run?

I had trouble with GMM too, but got it to load. First it said it required a connection and to contact my carrier (which is bunk), then I launched IE (creating a connection) then launched GMM at it worked. Although it said “your phone does support satelite view because they are jpegs, which is also bunk. I used GMM on my Blackberry 8700 and it is awesome, hope to see it work better on Windows soon!

Exactly what Joe Blow said. I received the errors about my carrier, opened Pocket IE, kept trying the GMM download link, and eventually it installed.
Once operating, it will work for a bit, then freeze. Once it freezes, you have to go into Memory and unload the Midlet Manager. Then you can restart GMM.
You can do this as long as you desire until it drives you insane or leaves you bald from pulling your hair out in frustration.

I got GMM to work fine on my Cingular 8125. If you use a different midlet manager such as IBM’s MIDP20 GMM works fine. No freezes. Maybe it’s not Windows but the midlet manager they use.
