Giants Win – Condi Rice Loses
May 24th, 2007 - No Comments YetSo, I get an email yesterday from brother Tito asking me if I would like to go to the Giants’ game last night and of course I accept. It was one of those great weather days in San Francisco (you can count them on one hand) and I was psyched to get to watch a game in perfect weather. I am waiting for TJ outside of the normal meeting spot (outside the right field gate on 3rd St.) and there are a number of “Secret Service” looking vehicles parked in front…a Suburban, a van and a few police cars. I am texting with TJ right next to the curb when a police car pulls up right under my nose. The first thing I notice is that this police car has a better shine on it than any of my cars do. I look up and a guy in a suit jumps out and walks back towards the Suburban. Behind his SFPD police car is a California Highway Patrol car. I looked to see if Baricza or Turner were driving and then noticed that the CHP car was also abnormally clean. I looked up, saw TJ and started walking towards the gate. I noticed that the matching SFPD and CHP cars behind the Suburban were also spit-shine clean. Comedy I thought. I guess the city and state policy is to get thier cars waxed for the right people.
Well, we get inside and Danielle text messages us (FYI, I really don’t text much) that Condi Rice is sitting with Willie Mays down next to the visiting dugout. Apparently, Condi’s mother or grandmother taught Willie’s 9th grade class. So, in the 8th inning when Willie decided to leave, a number of people noticed and were clapping and yelling pleasantries at the legend as he made his way out of the park. Danielle later told me that the cameras also followed him just about all of the way up and out of the stands. 10 minutes or so later, as the teams changed sides, Condi decides to walk out. Let’s just say that I didn’t expect her to get much love in SF, but I really didn’t expect her to get BOOED by most of the people between 3rd base and home plate. At first we looked at each other and thought the crowd was booing someone on the field. Then we realized that they were booing Condi. Brutal.
