Website Conversion Tips

We are all looking for ways to squeak out more conversions from the traffic we have…if you are not, you should be. So, why not start with Google’s free conversion tips?

Google’s conversion team has put together a bunch of conversion articles and hit lists to help make sure your site is built to convert as well as possible. Certainly a great place to start if you don’t have a lot of experience with conversion optimization…and even the biggest afficionados are sure to pick up a thing or two as well.

Check out the Google Conversion University page and wallpaper your office with them.

Original post from Online Collaboration Tools.

We have been researching a number of online collaboration tools to try and take Danielle’s business to the next level. I just came across a great list of online collaboration tools at Mission to Learn. There are about 4 that I am looking at now…most allow you to have multiple participants, use video and IM/chat as well as upload files. One even allows you to record the whole session for playback at a later time. That is pretty cool if you are being tutored…you can log in and replay your session at a later date if there is something you don’t quite remember.

UPDATE 1:

Microsoft Live Mesh -> VERY COOL. Sync files between multiple computers (PC or Mac), upload content to your “mesh” from your mobile device, Remote Desktop to one of your computers via the Mesh, set access permissions on a folder basis (multiple students, each with their own folder that syncs with a folder on their home computer….cool).

Command Line Kung Fu

I was trying to figure out how to run Disk Defragmenter from the command line on a SBS2003 box as I was not sure how to specify what drive I want defrag.exe to run on at a specific time. Turns out that you can just browse to defrag.exe (…/system32) and then tell it what drive to run on in the advanced properties of the Task Scheduler. Microsoft has a write-up on the whole process.

But, if you don’t have a good mousetrap to sell someone something, get some money from them for your cause/capture their contact information, then you don’t have shit….your marketing could be the best thing since sliced bread, but you will be no better off at the end of the day without a good/effective mousetrap. Think about how you will market, but get your ducks in a row on the mousetrap first.

Original post from California Internet Tax Vote.

Just got this from Commission Junction:

Dear California Publisher,

ALL HANDS ON DECK! California’s budget tax bill now includes “affiliate nexus” language and could be voted on as early as next week! Commission Junction is opposed to the internet retail tax and this language in general, and we strongly encourage you to send a letter of opposition to Senator Denise Moreno Ducheny (senator.ducheny@sen.ca.gov). But don’t stop there:
Navigate to the California State Assembly web site
Use the “Find My District” link on the left of the home page and then type in your address and zip code to find your district number. Close that window.
Use the “Assembly Roster” link on the home page to find links to email your assembly member.

We encourage you to use email and phone calls to express your opposition.

Please visit this page and scroll to the California Internet Retail Tax section to find a template you can use and modify accordingly for your email as well as the Senator’s email address.

Let’s join together to oppose this bill!

Sincerely,

The Commission Junction Team
