Why RSS is Going to Be Super Huge

I was talking to Danielle’s (my fiance) cousin yesterday about RSS and blogs. He was looking at me like I was speaking Chinese (I was not). RSS feeds and the Sage Plugin for FireFox allow me to monitor all of the news/blog feeds I want to monitor throughout the day. It really is a great way for a scatterbrain like myself to stay on top of developments and learn things while I am working. But, what I keep thinking is, I am in the super-duper-minority. I say RSS to most people and they look at me like I just said booger. They have no idea what I am talking about.

But, there are tons of people that I know and can name that would probably piss their pants with excitement if they knew that they could easily subscribe to feeds with one right mouse click and be able to monitor all of their favorite and not-so-favorite news sources. Once all of those people figure it out, it is going to be crazy. People will not visit websites anymore for news and other related content, they will simply get it via RSS. I am not saying that people won’t go to websites anymore, but a large portion of the new that people consume on a daily basis will not be read directly from a website’s page. To me, this is probably one of the most useful items on the internet next to email…maybe even more useful.
